spaces of abandon
Here is a selected set of photos from a series taken in 2007. Abandoned spaces like this are from old soviet collective farms, however they are rapidly disappearing. Structures like this decayed so rapidly because of the poor methods of construction. It was common for people to steal any valuable materials for their own use [...]
deep winter
2010 New Years greetings to everyone. I’m posting some photos taken during the recent days of crystal clear but cold weather (-15C to -26C, 5F to -15F). Its a time when everything seems to come to a frozen standstill, everything except the last remaining moisture in the air which condenses as crystallized ice on all [...]
urban exploring: riga power station
While visiting Riga this past weekend we were able to gain access (officially) to the old power station in Riga. The power station, which generated heat for the city, ceased operations in 2003 and is slowly undergoing a process of transformation, yet the building and many old artifacts remain. There are plans to convert the [...]

patterns within the structure
This is a small gallery of images collected during a recent visit to Austin and the desert area of West Texas known as Big Bend. The patterns reflect much of the arid desert-like climate which has been growing more dry and hot over the years.

phase inversion
MYSTERY SEA 51 CD (Belgium, 2009)
TRACKS
01. dispersion trajectory
02. membrane formation
03. spectral remnants
INFO
Three tracks of moderate fluctuations of sound in temporal space, infected by the occasional far from equilibrium interventions to diversify the stasis. Research notes: Most structural compositions of phase inversion have focused on slow shifts in macrotonal formations, while the rich microstructure [...]

winter crystallization
These are some images I captured yesterday after a fairly cold evening (-10c) left ice crytal formations around our yard. Reading up on the process of crystallization gave some insight into these amazing forms. The “growth” of crystals is built on a complex layering of structures embedded within structures implying fractal-like behaviors that begin at [...]

noctilucent sky
These are noctilucent clouds hovering at the edge of the earth’s atmosphere on the fringes of space. Nobody is quite sure what they are, but its a beautiful phenomenon nonetheless, seen mostly at higher latitudes. I took this photo last night as the earliest sunlight made its way into the night sky. It was my [...]
of coastal tanks and inland bunkers
This past weekend I was in Riga to visit the Sound Forest festival. I could write about my impressions of the festival but I won’t. While there were a few good performances I enjoyed more the side activities that came with visiting friends in Riga. As is often the case we ended up exploring some [...]

notes from nodar
It has been a while since my last post, which was partly due to my being away in Portugal for most of April. Something of a sister project to MoKS has started up there known as the Binaural Media residency. It too is located in a rural village setting and aims to integrate the [...]

urban exploration : dead meat
An urban research group in Tartu was looking at the phenomenon of urban exploration. I suggested to make a small trip somewhere in the city. Out of a few interesting possibilities we decided on the former meat factory, a site full of urban legends, as it is fairly central and easily accessible. [...]
